Questions and instructions
During the current school year, did (name)attend school at any time?
Questions ED18, ED19 and ED20 collect information on the school attendance of household members
during the current school year (if the interview is conducted when the schools are open) or the last
school year that has ended (if the interview is conducted between school years). Questions ED21
and ED22 collect information on the school attendance of household members during the previous
school year.
For each household member aged 5-18 years (this includes those aged 5 and 18), ask ED17-ED22.
These questions ask about school attendance of household members aged 5-18 years. While the
ideal respondent for these questions would be the mother or primary caretaker, any adult member
of the household may provide the information.
Since questions from ED17 to ED22 refer to school attendance, they will have to be adapted to the
situation at the time of the interview accordingly. All questions should be kept; however, the wording
and coding will have to be changed. The objective of these questions is to capture the school
attendance of household members in two consecutive school years. In the explanations below,
information is provided on how this can be tackled.
If the interview is carried out during the school year, then the question should be worded to refer to
the current school year. If the interview is carried out between school years, then the question
should refer to the last school year that has ended.
Circle the code corresponding to the answer given. If 'Yes', continue to the next question. If 'No',
skip to ED21.
