Questions and instructions
How long after birth did you first put (name) to the breast?
If the mother reports that the baby was put to the breast immediately after birth, circle '000'. Otherwise, enter the time in completed hours or days.
If less than one hour, circle '1' for 'Hours' and enter '00' in the space provided. For example, if the woman said she began breastfeeding within 10 minutes of the birth, circle '1' and enter '00' hours.
If the mother began breastfeeding within 24 hours of the birth, circle '1' and enter the number of hours that passed before the baby was put to the breast.
If she began breastfeeding 24 hours or more after the birth, circle '2' and enter the number of days. Enter in completed number of days. For example, if the baby was first breastfed 30 hours after delivery, circle '2' and enter '01' days.
If the woman does not know or does not remember how long after birth she had put the baby to the breast, circle '998'.
